SNOW!

Its been quite the odd winter here in little Rhody.   Cold one day, warm the next…..but today it. is. SNOWING!!   I love the snow!  I’m especially glad that I bought my beer and bread yesterday so I don’t have to go to the store today and drive amongst the crazies that forget how to drive when it snows :D

I hope you have a great day filled with lots of snowman making, snowball fights and hot cocoa (or coffee and baileys)   :D

Traditions

One of the most prevalent memories of Christmas from my childhood was going to pick out the Christmas tree.   We always went the weekend after my Birthday (Dec 6).   It wasn’t a big event, yet a small tradition I always looked forward too.    I’ve been keeping this tradition with my own daughter hoping someday she’s have the same fond memories and others that surround it.    For me it was making popcorn garland, listening to the chipmunks sing christmas songs while decorating the tree and playing christmas songs on the piano.      Although I was happy (and lucky enough) to have plenty to open Christmas morning,  it ended up being the small traditions that we the most memorable.

You can make your lights have the starred effect (the sun, christmas tree lights etc)  by using the sunny 16 rule.   Set your aperture to f16 and shoot away!  Just be cautious when shooting the sun – its bright!!  You can up your ISO a few steps if you have subjects you are trying to shoot with the sun in the picture or use your flash.

Turkey day aftershocks and pretty scenery…

I bet you are sick of seeing posts about turkey day already wondering  what the crap this is about – Thanksgivings OVER.  Cringing at the thought of eating anything else made with turkey perhaps….     Well I’m still feeling the so called ‘after shocks’ of turkey day – I ate entirely too much and drank entirely too much  which rendered me completely useless on Black Friday and I still have this darn pain in my left side.  The pain I get when I eat tooo. much… foood…. or too much fatty food : (  It goes away in a few days when I start eating better again.

Attempting to go back to ‘better for me foods’, I stopped at the Green Grocer, in Portsmouth, RI,  this morning on my way to work.  The Green Grocer is a purveyor all things healthy and organic.  When you shop there you can trust you are getting something that is good.

I bought a chocolate peppermint Luna bar (YUM)  a Steaz energy drink (instead of an extra extra ice coffee…) and  some packets of Emergen-C vitamin C (take that cold germs!)

Like many other days after stopping at the Green Grocer,  I admire the view on the way out and curse at my self for not having my camera…… So today I planned ahead.

A Sunday Ride…

Typically Sunday is our family day.   This usually starts out with a trip to Dunkin’ donuts for coffee and breakfast then a ‘Sunday Ride’.    Please don’t mistake us for ‘Sunday Drivers’ – you know-  the folks that ONLY go out on sundays (or nice days) and drive waaayyy toooooo sloooooowwwww.   Neither of us drive slow.

Today our ride took us to the state forest in Freetown, Ma.   I’ve always loved the woods – I think I was actually conceived in the woods too… that may explain it!   My childhood consisted of lots of camping, fishing and hiking and I loved every minute.     There were alot of people out on their dirtbikes today – which made me a little jealous too,  I’d love to ride a dirtbike again – I learned how to ride on a dirtbike back before I got my motorcycle license.

Anywho…..  here are a few photos I took today.  Enjoy!

I think you’re already wondering about the very odd title…..  Lol

Well, let me explain…..

Its Friday again, thank god!  and I find myself in the midst of editing photos for back to back weddings with and engagement shoot in between and another wedding coming up next weekend.   This is on top of college courses, full time work and being a mom.  YET I find my self searching for ways to find more photography work.  WHY? (besides the face that you may already think I’m a little nutzo…)  Photography is my crack.      Its the feeling I get when I’m driving to a wedding and I can’t shut up and switch topic frequently while driving like a maniac to make sure I’m early, (the first time I said the saying was during one of those moments!)   The way I feel while editing my photos to make sure that the bride likes the face shes making if i’m choosing between two shots.  Its the feeling you get when you are told you’re the Best. Wedding. Photographers.  ever!

When your adrenalin kicks in and you go at it like nothing else in the world matters at that moment.

The best way to describe this feeling is – Photography is my crack.

Hope you have an awesome weekend!

In our family, you never have to wonder who is going to make the birthday cake or bring the dessert for any occasion.   My sister in law, Bonnie,  is the baker of the family who puts love into everything she makes.   From cupcakes topped with Chocolate butterflies,  Baskets full of edible leaves and everything in between, her creativity leaves us wondering what will come next!

If you are looking for a cake for any event big or small, cupcakes, cookies, pie, cheesecake…. Call or email Bonnie!

Juice!

A few weekends ago we went apple picking.  Somehow we always end up with more apples then we know what to do with.

Over 10 years ago, after being inspired by Jack LaLanne – the Godfather of Fitness and his commercials for the Juiceman Juicer – I bought my very own Juice machine. There was a time in my pizza years (I managed a pizza establishment for about 10 years) that the crew and I used to Juice every day.  From apple carrot juice to cucumber carrot celery apple strawberry.  LOL.    Its amazing how you can drink a class of freshly juiced juice and feel completely energized.  There’s really no comparison to store bought juice.

Paige loves to juice almost as much as I do – so we quickly decided what to do with all those extra apples.   Luckily we had some carrots in the fridge and went to town.

Some Friday Inspiration….

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” – Steve Jobs

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”   – Steve Jobs

RIP Steve Jobs and thank you for this and quite a few other inspiring quotes.

I am following my heart and intuition and investing more of my time (and money) in my photography.  This is what I love to do!   What do you love to do? What is stopping you from doing it!?!?!?!

Water Fire

We hadn’t been to Water fire in quite a few years so we decided to go this past weekend.   On our way we stopped to eat at Gregg’s in East Providence – they’re food is always good and the dessert…. oh the dessert….. my mouth is watering right now.     I thought about stopping at fire and Ice in Providence, seeing that is one of my favorite restaurants as well – but – I  like to eat the roasted garlic they have there and I decided to spare my family from the wicked horrible garlic breath that would ward off vampires for days to come.

If you haven’t been to Water Fire in Providence its a pretty neat event with moving statues, street vendors, eclectic music and of course Fires in the water!     They also have Gondola’s and fish boat (small boats with light up fish on them) rides down the river past the fires.   I’m sure this would be a cool engagement venue – it is quite romantic.

Here are a few pictures I took.  Note to self  don’t forget a tripod and setting a delay when taking pics at night.    I  forgot my tripod at home  :(

Hello Snapper!

My Dad lives right on the Cobbessecontee Stream in West Gardiner, Maine.   It’s actually is more like a river.   There’s really not much in the town – a school, a corner store owned by a grumpy old man, a cemetery, W. Gardiner Beef….   They have a volunteer fire station and NO POLICE!  that’s the part I like..  lol.   Anywho – back to the snappers.   The turtles dig holes for their eggs all over the yard, raccoons dig some up and some hatch.  Some baby turtles get run over by the lawnmower – but that was not the case this weekend.    We found the baby turtles coming out of a hole in the ground,  caught one that was going the wrong direction and scooped up the rest (at least 20) and gave them a free ride to the water.

Here’s a few pictures  for your enjoyment!
